Best Government Website Trends Detailed in New Report from the Web Marketing Association
West Simsbury, CT (PRWEB) March 28, 2008 -- WebAward08.org (http://www.webaward.org/bestwebsites.asp?gad=CLuN0dkDEgiWfXzHcjWjThi6nML_AyC33JU2)- The Web Marketing Association, host of leading website awards competition WebAwards, released the Internet Standards Assessment Report (ISAR) to help the government industry learn to create more effective and engaging websites.
"As the standard of excellence for websites continues to increase, consumers (and WebAward judges) are increasingly picky about what they consider to be an effective website," said William Rice, president of the Web Marketing Association, Inc. "Government web sites need to balance the appearance of fiscal responsibility with the goals of the Web project. The best Government Web sites do not appear to be created by committee."
The WebAwards competition judges government websites on seven criteria that combined create award-winning websites:
* Design
* Innovation
* Content
* Technology
* Interactivity
* Copywriting
* Ease of use
Prior to 2003, Government Web sites, including federal, state, and municipal agencies generally met or exceeded the ISAR index; however, the past five years have resulted in consistent underperformance in the index. 2007 was a particularly poor performing year. Because of this sub-par performance, government sites have lagged the 5-year criteria benchmark averages in all areas. As an industry, they are best at content and copywriting, but consistently lag in innovation and technology.
The 2007 WebAward for Best Government Website went to Zugara for Do Something Amazing.
Other past winners include:
* 2006 National Library of Scotland for National Library of Scotland
* 2005 U.S. Postal Service for Postage Rate Calculator
* 2004 Batiz.com, Inc. for Drive Clean
* 2003 TMP Worldwide for United States Naval Reserve
* 2002 Campbell-Ewald Advertising for Accelerate Your Life, NAVY
A complete list of past winners can be found at government.webaward.org.
