After-School All-Stars Chapter Receives $709,000 Appropriation From State Government First ASAS Chapter To Receive Direct State Appropriation

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) July 10, 2007 -- After-School All-Stars (ASAS) announced today that The Greater Las Vegas After-School All-Stars has received a $709,000 appropriation from the State of Nevada to increase after-school programming in certain schools in Clark County, Nevada. The appropriation is the first of its kind for any ASAS chapter.

The $709,000 appropriation from the State of Nevada will be used to support after-school programs such as science, sports, dance, cooking, media & broadcast journalism, art and numerous other educational, enrichment and recreational programs for at-risk youth. These programs are provided free by After-School All-Stars to youth throughout Clark County. ASAS is active in 13 U.S. cities and serves more than 60,000 children.

"Everyday, fifteen millions kids have no place to go after school. In order for our society to address the critical needs of after-school, we need to partner with local governments throughout the country," said Ben Paul, President and CEO of After-School All-Stars. "The private sector has been carrying much of the funding weight for our programs and others. It is a very positive sign to see state governments help shore up the sustainability and reach of quality after-school programs."

The State of Nevada appropriations money will enable the After-School All-Stars both to bring their programs to new school sites and increase programming at existing schools in the fall of 2007. Greater Las Vegas ASAS will be able to serve at least 1,500 more elementary and middle school kids throughout Nevada who currently do not have access to these services.
